With the help of a digital tool, we can easily measure food waste at each of our hotels. This makes us more aware of the challenge and enables us to take swift action to reduce food waste. In addition, we save both time and money. All hotels measure and display daily food waste for guests, promoting transparency and accountability.

 

FOODWASTE AGREEMENT

The Food Waste Reduction Agreement aims to ensure that Norway halves its food waste by 2030. This is a voluntary agreement where both the authorities and private sector actors are committed to reducing food waste at every stage of the food chain. Smarthotels are part of this agreement and are actively working to cut food waste.

 

 

SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION

Smarthotel purchases large quantities of coffee. Therefore, we have chosen an organic coffee that is grown according to the regulations for organic production. Green World Organic Coffee consists of 100% Arabica beans that grow under ideal conditions at over a thousand meters altitude, completely without pesticides and artificial fertilizers. The coffee is produced in an environmentally friendly roastery powered by 100% renewable energy. And it tastes incredibly good!

 

ORGANIC

Smarthotel follows the trend and offers a selection of organic products at the breakfast buffet. Currently, we offer organic coffee and various grain products. Our suppliers can document that these products are grown and produced organically. We are working to gradually increase the number of products. Serving organic food has many benefits for health, the environment, and society. Organic food production does not use synthetic pesticides, which protects soil, water resources, and biodiversity. It also provides cleaner, more natural food without unnecessary additives, while often tasting better. Additionally, we serve organic milk from Norwegian cows. Higher animal welfare and support for small-scale, sustainable farmers are also important aspects. By choosing organic food, one makes a conscious choice that contributes to a healthier body, a cleaner environment, and more sustainable agriculture

 

NUDGING

Smarthotel gives you a friendly nudge. To reduce food waste, we encourage you as a guest to take smaller portions at a time and help yourself multiple times. It turns out that this significantly reduces food waste.
